Birds of a Feather

Thankful November 26, 2009

Filed under: Holiday — kcfeather @ 1:54 am

“BeĀ  joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

We have lots to be thankful for this fall:

*Friends and family, near and far

*Jobs (both present, for K, and future, for C)

*Our health (no H1N1 so far…)

*Tickets home to see both our families at Christmas

*Lots of fun times this past year (and hopefully many more to look forward to)

*Good books to read

*A very tasty turkey pot-pie last night

*Each other

What are you grateful for this Thanksgiving?

What we’ve been reading and watching November 19, 2009

Reading

K: Eavan Boland’s poetry, How Professors Think (a re-read – one of my favorite assigned readings from last year and quite apropos to my current job), New Sudden Fiction (really, really great, really, really short stories), and some Pulitzer Prize-winning articles.
C: Economics, Sunset Limited, and On Food and Cooking (through which he learns all sorts of little tidbits like how to slow-cook a Jerusalem artichoke, or about Chinese aged eggs).

Watching

The Wire (just started Season 3); 30 Rock; Ugly Betty. Also last weekend I forced C to watch New in Town with me. We both agreed it was a not-very-good (actually pretty bad) movie, but the difference is that I still got teary despite the poor quality, whereas C did not.

Now the leaves are gone,
and I can see the goldfinch
on the branches out my window.

Howdy!

A few pictures from the Hoedown Throwdown party we went to last week (we didn’t dress up, but still took advantage of the photo booth). C is away at a conference in Tucson until Saturday, so I have the house to myself…yeehaw!
