Garden Update July 10, 2009

Our garden plot(s) are coming along quite well. I posted some pictures from right after we transplanted here in May. It was too hot for the bok choi, which bolted (and so we pulled it up) – but other than that, it’s looking like we’ll be able to feast on fresh garden veggies for the rest of the summer.
Here’s plot one:

We’ve certainly learned from our mistakes this year: in future, we’ll pay more attention to planting season (bok choi); will plant cover crops in the off season (to keep the soil good); and will add fresh soil/manure each year. But overall, we’re pleased with the row crop experiment (thus far…we haven’t tasted the veggies yet, other than the lettuce greens).

We also have some flowers and herbs (and leftover melons and tomatoes) right ourside our front door:
